U.S. Term Limits Condemns Politicians Behind Attempt
to Kill Congressional Term Limits Progres
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Term Limits condemned the recent move by Alabama legislators to pass legislation aimed at rescinding the state’s term limits on Congress convention application. Alabama passed the congressional term limits resolution in 2018, making it one of six states to have passed such a resolution.
Congressional term limits is supported by more than 82% of Americans regardless of political affiliation. A group of Alabama legislators has proposed House Joint Resolution 104 and Senate Joint Resolution 57, which, if passed, would reverse the previous resolution in favor of congressional term limits and go against the wishes of the majority of Alabamians. It is politics as usual, and U.S. Term Limits condemns these resolutions and the political special interests behind them in the strongest possible terms.
We call on all Alabamians to reach out to their legislators and request that they vote against House Joint Resolution 104 and Senate Resolution 57, thereby preserving the progress made in support of congressional term limits and honoring the will of the people.
“The people of Alabama are strongly behind congressional term limits and the legislature acted on this in 2018,” said Philip Blumel, President of U.S. Term Limits. “Now a group of career politicians and special interests are seeking to undo the progress in making congressional term limits a reality.
“We are urging the state legislature to defeat this move to rescind Alabama’s application for a term limits on Congress convention,” concluded Blumel. “We condemn the special interests and career politicians behind this move.”
