Three Young Pledge Signers Win in WV House of Delegates Races
Charleston, WV – U.S. Term Limits (USTL) praises 2020 West Virginia house of delegates candidates Riley Keaton (district 11), Trevor Morris (district 35) and Josh Holstein (district 23), who have committed to support term limits on Congress by signing the Term Limits Convention pledge. All have advanced from the Tuesday’s primary and are heading to the general election on November 3, 2020.
Keaton, a 22-year old, challenged and beat a five-year incumbent, Delegate Rick Atkinson. 19-year old Morris advanced vying for one of four seats to represent citizens of state house district 35. Holstein, an 18-year old, also advanced and will be challenging an incumbent in the November election.
USTL President, Philip Blumel, commended the candidates on their success saying, “The people of West Virginia overwhelmingly want term limits on Congress. These young candidates understand the importance of listening to the electorate. They know that 82% of the people want a Congress that will be served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”
The U.S. Term Limits pledge is provided to candidates and members of state legislatures. It reads, “I pledge that, as a member of the state legislature, I will cosponsor, vote for, and defend the resolution applying for an Article V convention for the limited purpose of enacting term limits on Congress.”
According to a 2018 nationwide poll on term limits conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, the term limits issue enjoys wide bipartisan support. McLaughlin’s analysis states, “Support for term limits is broad and strong across all political, geographic and demographic groups. An overwhelming 82% of voters approve of a Constitutional Amendment that will place term limits on members of Congress.”
