Rep. Scott Hilton Files Term Limits Resolution in Georgia
Atlanta, GA – State Representative Scott Hilton (district 48) has filed House Resolution 1043 (HR1043) for Georgia to join other states calling for a convention for proposing a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL). Hilton authored this resolution with the support of 55 representatives as cosponsors.
According to the latest RMG Research poll, 72% of likely voters in Georgia support term limits on Congress, including strong support among Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.
HR1043 has a groundswell of bipartisan support in the Georgia legislature with more than sixty state lawmakers from both sides of the aisle having signed our term limits pledge.
“It is glaringly obvious to the American people that Congress is broken and in need of substantive repair,” said Dr. John Cowan, USTL’s Georgia State Chair. He continued, “The incessant gamesmanship, conflicting talking points, and feigned outrage, seemingly posited to guarantee stagnation, only serve to erode our country. Any policy that creates a more responsive and accountable federal government is good policy.”
HR1043 is assigned to the government affairs committee for a vote before it makes its way to the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives.
If passed in both the state house and senate this session, Georgia will join other states in the call to for a national convention for the exclusive purpose of proposing term limits on the U.S. Congress. Once 34 state legislatures pass similar resolutions, and approve the term limits amendment language, the measure must be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
