New York, NY – U.S. Term Limits (USTL) is pleased to announce that a fourth New York City mayoral candidate, Kathryn Garcia, has pledged to support term limits on elected officials in New York City. Previously, candidates Andrew Yang, Shaun Donovan, and Maya Wiley have also signed the term limits pledge to support and defend the current term limits on elected officials in New York City.

The leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms for elected officials, U.S. Term Limits provided the pledge to all of the candidates in the mayoral race. It reads, “I pledge, as mayor, to veto any legislation to repeal or lengthen the 8-year term limits to which elected officials in New York City are subject.”

USTL President, Philip Blumel commented on the pledges saying, “Garcia, Yang, Donovan and Wiley are to be commended for standing by the term limits approved by New York City residents. These candidates know this issue resonates with a majority of the voters. The Big Apple needs a mayor who serves the people, not career politicians.”

According to the latest nationwide poll on term limits conducted by RMG Research, “Seventy-seven percent of those surveyed support enacting 8-year term limits for the Governor of New York and seventy-five percent support implementing 8-year term limits on the state legislature. An overwhelming sixty-seven percent of voters say that it is important that the next Mayor of New York City protects and defends the eight-year term limit for the Mayor and City Council.”

The seat is being vacated by current Mayor Bill DeBlasio due to term limits. The open seat has prompted more than twenty candidates to run for the office. The primary election for NYC mayor is scheduled for June 22, 2021. The general election is slated for November 2, 2021.
