Honoring the Legacy of Sen. Geraldine Thompson

February 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Florida State Senator Geraldine Thompson, a trailblazing civil rights leader, community advocate, and a true champion for congressional term limits.

Sen. Thompson dedicated her life to public service, founding the Wells’ Built Museum to preserve African American history, fighting for justice, and tirelessly working to improve the lives of Floridians. But for those of us in the term limits movement, she will always be remembered for casting the deciding vote that made Florida the first state to pass the U.S. Term Limits Convention resolution. Without Geraldine, we would not have succeeded in Florida.

She didn’t stop there. After securing this historic victory, she continued advocating for congressional term limits in other states, encouraging leaders across the country to take action. She understood that term limits are essential to restoring accountability in Washington, and she fought to make them a reality.

Sen. Thompson’s legacy will live on in the causes she championed and the countless lives she touched. Today, we mourn her loss, but we also honor her unwavering commitment to justice, history, and the fight for a government that serves the people.

Rest in peace, Geraldine. Your work will not be forgotten.
