New Hampshire Resolution to Term Limit Congress Passes First Hurdle

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire House on Federal Relations and Veteran’s Affairs Committee just voted “ought to pass” on a resolution calling for the states to propose a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. House Concurrent Resolution 4 (HCR4), led by Representative Scott Wallace, passed by a vote of 11 to 6. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit U.S. Term Limits.

HCR4 has the bipartisan support of more than forty New Hampshire legislators who signed the term limits pledge promising to support the congressional term limits effort.

Once HCR4 passes both chambers, New Hampshire will have the distinction of being among the first states in the nation to file an application for the states to convene for the exclusive purpose of proposing term limits on the U.S. Congress. When 34 state legislatures pass similar resolutions on the topic, and the term limits amendment is approved, it must be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
