West Virginia Delegate Pack Commits to Sponsor Congressional Term Limits Resolution
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national movement to limit terms for elected officials, is gathering support from state lawmakers across the nation. Their goal is to call a national term limits convention for the sole purpose of proposing term limits on Congress. West Virginia is a key state in this effort, with Delegate Jeffrey Pack (District 28) leading the way by committing to sponsor the Article V resolution. Pack also signed USTL’s Article V Term Limits Convention pledge.
Provided to all state legislators and candidates, the pledge reads, “I pledge that as a member of the state legislature, I will support and vote for the resolution applying for an Article V convention for the limited purpose of enacting term limits on Congress.”
Delegate Pack commented on the resolution saying, “Its time to drain the swamp of politicians who are out of touch with hard working West Virginians. The best way to do that is by establishing term limits on Congress.”
Legislative Director for U.S. Term Limits, Shanna Chamblee added, “Delegate Pack proved that he believes in the importance of term limits as he sponsored a term limits resolution for West Virginia state legislators in 2018. U.S. Term Limits looks forward to working with Delegate Pack in 2019 on the very important topic of term limits on Congress.”
According to Nick Tomboulides, Executive Director of USTL, the best chance to impose term limits on congress is through an Article V Convention of state legislatures. “While we’d like for Congress to take the high road and impose limits on itself, our goal is to trigger a term limits convention,” claims Tomboulides. “That is why it is important to get support from state legislators,” he added. Once proposed, the amendment must be ratified by 38 states.
Tomboulides notes, “More than 82% of Americans have rejected the career politician model and want to replace it with citizen leadership. The way to achieve that goal is through a congressional term limits amendment. Pack knows this and is willing to work to make sure we reach our goal.”
According to the last nationwide poll on term limits conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, conducted in January 2018, term limits enjoys wide bipartisan support. McLaughlin’s analysis states, “Support for term limits is broad and strong across all political, geographic and demographic groups. An overwhelming 82% of voters approve of a constitutional amendment that will place term limits on members of Congress.”
