FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Petition Drive to Restore Arkansas Term Limits Gathers Steam

Little Rock, Arkansas — Arkansas Term Limits is busy gathering signatures to put the ARKANSAS TERM LIMIT AMENDMENT on the ballot in November of 2018.  This is an attempt to restore the stricter term limits on legislators that were watered down in 2014. Issue 3, which weakened voter approved term limits and nearly tripled legislative pay, was sponsored by the now convicted former Senator Woods and by Representative Warwick Sabin.

“Although the jury has served justice on the disgraced Senator Woods, the voters of Arkansas are still waiting for justice.  That is why we will continue to work to restore term limits in Arkansas”, said Tom Steele, Chairman of Arkansas Term Limits.

The new amendment will restore the limits to three terms in the House and two terms in the Senate and have a cap of 10 years in the Legislature.

“What the Legislature did to the voters in 2014 by hiding their pay raise and hiding their selfish extension of their own terms, was shameful”, said Tim Jacob, spokesperson for the group.  The misleading ballot title in 2014 prompted the Democrat Gazette to call Woods and Sabin’s amendment, “THE OUTRAGE OF THE YEAR”.

Arkansas voters had approved the stricter term limits on legislators in two landslide elections in 1992 and in 2004 before Senator Woods and Representative Sabin buried the term limit extension on page 16 of the so called “Ethics” bill.
